Our Crew

Owner/Master Electrician

Although he’s been the lead designer and installer on hundreds of systems for Shaw Solar, John most enjoys building relationships with his clients and working to find the right solutions for their individual needs. John has completed 3 Advanced PV courses from COSEIA, SMA’s Technical inverter class and is a NABCEP Certified PV Installer. John is the only solar contractor in the state of Colorado to hold both a Master Plumber and Master Electrician’s license. When not installing solar, John might be found in the Silverton backcountry in winter, rafting the San Juan in the spring, or wrestling with his two little girls in the summer grass.

Business Operations & Finance

After learning about solar from the ground up, Mike joined the Shaw Solar family in 2010. Prior to that, Mike developed volunteer training programs for the Athens, Torino and Vancouver Olympic games. His growing interest in renewable energy was sparked by his time spent balancing the energy needs on his 34′ sailboat, which he and his family sailed to Alaska and back. And if you’ve ever dreamed of sailing to Alaska with a 4-year old on board, Mike would urge you to give him a call first…Mike was one of the first to build a passive solar Straw Bale home in La Plata County, and installed a 10 kW grid-direct PV array for his all-electric home, which he hopes will provide 100% of his family’s electrical needs long into the future.

Operations Manager

Dusty was raised in Alaska where he thought everyone knew how to shoot a gun and operate heavy equipment by the time they were 13. A man of many skills, he has done biomedical research, been a wild land firefighter, heavy equipment operator in the oil industry, massage therapist, and a carpenter. He is also a registered residential electrician and completed COSEIA’s advanced PV class, SMA’s technical inverter class and is a NABCEP certified installer. Dusty has been with Shaw Solar since 2007. When not working, he enjoys spending time with his wife, exploring the mediums of wood & metal, gardening, and pushing his physical and mental boundaries through mountain biking, backcountry skiing and rock climbing.

Lead Project Manager

Allen joined the Shaw Solar crew in 2008, bringing 10+ years of experience in construction and woodworking. He has been a NABCEP certified PV installation professional since 2012, and a Master Electrician since 2017. Currently Allen splits the time between his wife and two kids, working on solar projects with Shaw Solar, and scrambling around the mountains and deserts of the southwest.

Lead Installer

Scott is a NABCEP certified PV Installation Professional and holds a bachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental and Sustainable Energy Engineering from University College Cork in Cork, Ireland. Having worked as a design engineer, Scott found the desk life to be monotonous and unrewarding. Eventually he moved to Breckenridge for the endurance sports and high altitude, and then 4 years later to Durango for its relatively milder climate. Scott is currently building a modest net-zero home in La Plata County.  Apart from installing solar, Scott’s skills include concrete & timber construction, engineering design, project management and drafting. He is also on the US Ski-Mountaineering team, where he competes on the European World Cup circuit in the winter.

Project Manager

Evan is a well travelled solar ace that got his start with large commercial solar in 2005, and has taken those skills across the west as far as Hawaii before he landed with us here at Shaw Solar. Evan can usually be found with his husky sidekick - Juno - or on his snowboard up at Purgatory come wintertime.

Solar Sales Consultant

Originally from the DC area, Gregg has been living in La Plata County for 20+ years and is truly living the ‘Mountain Town Dream Life’ with two kids, a lot of dogs and multiple jobs. He and his wife own and operate the Durango Dog Ranch offering mushing adventures in the winter months. He was also the executive Director at 4CORE and is a nationally certified Building Analyst. Gregg has been with Shaw Solar since November of 2014. “We invested in Solar PV on our home with John Shaw in October of 2013 and we haven’t looked back."

Project Coordinator

Lindsay comes to Durango by way of the East Coast and is a longtime advocate of renewable energy. She has a dynamic background in environmental research and project management, and is eager to put her skills to use here in the Four Corners. When not at work, Lindsay can be found in a yoga studio, up at Purg, or out pushing the limits on where her Prius can take her.

Solar Sales Consultant

Greg Walton has lived in Durango for 15 years, holds a master’s degree in sustainable management, specializes in renewable energy and has owned a small business and worked as a school teacher in the past. He currently performs state ombudsman duties and advocates for seniors who live in Southwest Colorado long-term-care facilities.

Solar Sales Consultant

Pete Vanderbilt was born in Detroit, and eventually made it to Durango, where he tries to maximize the benefits of mountain living. He studied renewable energy and photovoltaics at San Juan College, and has worked in the solar energy industry for several years.

A Durango native, Tyler has worked with Shaw Solar since 2015. He has a Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science & Biology with an emphasis in Engineering & Architecture, which makes him an awesome asset to the Shaw team. He’s also an athlete at heart. Tyler was All-American center fielder at West Texas A&M and can be found skiing, biking, climbing, running, or golfing when not up on a roof. We're also proud to say that during the winter months, Tyler is the Director of the Purgatory Ski Team’s Alpine program.

Nolan, who also happens to be Tyler's cousin, hooked up with Shaw Solar in 2017 and has never looked back. Nolan brought with him a strong work ethic, solid construction skills, and a big smile. Nolan is also skilled in finding some exotic location to explore in the winter months.
